Last week, I had the pleasure of taking my new Kera Travel hoist on a trip to Palmerston North.
With the "Show your Ability" – Disability Equipment Expo taking center stage, it was the perfect opportunity to put this innovative piece of gear to the test.
Palmerston North is just a couple of hours away, but the idea of staying overnight gave me a chance to really see what the Kera is capable of beyond the usual daily hustle.
Now, let's talk about overnight stays in a wheelchair. They can be a bit of a juggling act, especially since hotel rooms aren’t exactly designed with mobility in mind. I took a gamble booking my room online and, believe it or not, I got lucky! The room was spacious enough for me to manoeuvre my Kera with ease. After a long day of travel, making the transfer from my wheelchair to the single bed was a breeze, thanks to my trusty Kera. It’s amazing how a little bit of engineering can make life so much easier; I barely broke a sweat!
The next morning, I was up and at it in no time. I jumped onto the Kera and got dressed without straining my helper at all. It felt like a mini victory to start the day off so smoothly! Soon, we were off to the expo to showcase the Kera Travel, and let’s be real, I felt a bit like Andy Warhol. The buzz at the expo was electric, and I couldn’t help but appreciate how far things had come in the disability equipment world since I last attended a decade ago.
My HT Systems team, Richard and Alex were the real MVPs of the day. They were chatting up a storm, inviting folks to try out the Kera. The sit2sit technology made it super easy for interested attendees to hop in and give it a go. I was impressed as I watched Alex effortlessly dismantle the Kera to pack it away—it was like watching a magic show, but instead of pulling rabbits out of hats, he was pulling off some serious packing feats!
Before I knew it, the day sped by, and it was time to head home. I said goodbye to the expo, packed up my Kera Travel in the back of my vehicle, and reflected on what a successful outing it had been. Not only did I get to showcase a fantastic product, but I also found that traveling with Kera is the easy way to make life’s adventures a bit more enjoyable. Mission accomplished!

Mark, is the National Sales Manager for HT Systems and has tricked out his Kera Travel hoist with Mod Podge (but that's a story for another day).
