We’re fortunate to connect with incredible people across the globe and play a part in transforming their lives for the better. Today, Kera is trusted in countries worldwide—from Lebanon and Latvia to Croatia, Germany, Belgium, Spain, South Africa, Canada, the US, UK, Australia, and New Zealand.
Back in July, we met Tahmina and her sister, Narmina, on a video call from Azerbaijan. With the help of a friend translating and a few emails exchanged, they made an extraordinary decision: to trust us and the Kera hoist to change their lives.
Here’s their inspiring story of how the Kera Home brought freedom and independence back into their world.
We live with a diagnosis of muscular dystrophy (myopathy). It’s a condition that teaches you to appreciate the simplest things - standing up, transferring, moving without causing pain or strain to yourself or the person helping you. One wrong lift or awkward movement can lead to injury for both sides. That’s why choosing the right assistive device remained an unsolved challenge for many years.
Nine years ago, we looked into buying a lift from Germany. But its design was inconvenient, and it required help from two people, which made it nearly impossible for us to use. Instead, we chose to rely on a caregiver, who supported my sister and me for many years and truly became part of our family.
Then something none of us expected happened - she became bedridden. Stage-four knee osteoarthritis. Overnight, everything changed. Our carefully balanced routine collapsed in a single day. We suddenly needed daily, physically demanding assistance, and there was no one to replace her.
We began searching for alternatives in different countries, hoping that in the past years new, more practical solutions had appeared. But everything we found showed the same thing: devices lifting healthy people with incredible ease. And I sat there watching, realizing that not a single video answered the only question that mattered to us: How will this work for someone who truly needs help?
In June 2025, a video about Kera appeared on YouTube. I watched it. Then another. And another. Some videos I watched five times - just to convince myself it was real. What touched us the most were the stories from real Kera users - people facing the same challenges we face. Their honest, authentic experiences helped us understand that this device actually works in real life, not just in demonstration videos.
And for the first time, my mother - who always doubts everything and asks dozens of questions - said with confidence:“Write to them. This is different.”
We wrote. We were scared. We were taking a risk. We were making a decision under stress, exhaustion, and despair. But we took the step.
Today I can say: it was a turning point.
Now I am 95% independent, and this feeling of freedom is impossible to overstate.
I also want to highlight how much Kera has eased my mother’s work.
There is no strain on her back - the lift is smooth, without jerks or force. The device is incredibly easy to use - just a few simple movements, and it’s ready. Every detail is designed with people with muscle weakness in mind: comfy chestpad and backstrap, thoughtful arm support, and especially the thigh support, which keeps you stable and safe.
There was a time when I fell asleep afraid of tomorrow. Today - I fall asleep grateful.
Kera is more than just a device. It’s a chance to return to normal life, to breathe more freely, and to be yourself - not defined by your diagnosis.
Thank you for what you do.
Kera doesn’t just provide comfort - it truly improves people’s quality of life.
